The association was established out of a deep-rooted vision and a strong commitment to preserving the history and passing on the rich heritage of Ethiopian Jewry.
Rabbi Moshe Baruch Shalit'a who leads the association, dedicates his entire life with supreme devotion to a plethora of activities aimed at perpetuating the unique heritage and identity of the "Beit Israel" community of Ethiopian Judaism, which has endured a long exile of approximately 2500 years, maintaining its traditions with tenacity and in complete isolation from other Jewish communities in the Diaspora. For generations, the Ethiopian community has exhibited an unwavering dedication to preserving ancient and unique customs, dating back to the exile of the First Temple
The association works and consolidates the strengthening of the religious-Jewish identity of the Ethiopian immigrants and perpetuates its heritage and identity by preserving the ancient and unique customs of the "Beit Israel" Jewish community (which have been preserved since the days of the First Temple) which has lived until now in a long exile (about 2500 years) and in complete isolation from the rest of the Israeli communities in the diaspora, and for this purpose the association established a yeshiva, including,
and a Torah research institute called "Beit Israel".
Most yeshiva students are former members of elite military units and have served in operational roles. Our study program is designed meticulously to provide our students with a strong foundation in Torah and Jewish law, while emphasizing the values, traditions and heritage of the Ethiopian Jewish community. After the students deepen their sacred studies and internalize the ways of the Torah, the yeshiva continues to accompany them in their next steps in life. It is important for us to emphasize that the Jewish homes our students establish are founded on the pillars of Torah and tradition, with a unique blend of the rich Ethiopian heritage and the universal values of Judaism. We believe that this integration enriches family life and strengthens the connection to one's roots and tradition. The yeshiva aspires to the wellbeing of its students and provides them with full living conditions within a dormitory setting. The students make do with modest accommodations, nutritious and tailored meals, and a supportive learning environment. The dormitory is active throughout the year, including on Shabbats and holidays, allowing the students to focus on their studies and spiritual development without daily concerns. This supportive environment enables the students to form meaningful social connections, experience the depth of religious observance, and develop personally and spiritually.
We believe that the combination of studying Torah rooted in the traditions of our ancestors, preparation for life, and a supportive environment, optimally prepares our students to become spiritual and social leaders in the community and Israeli society as a whole.
We provide personal guidance and direction in the shidduch (matchmaking) process, based on a deep understanding of the importance of establishing a traditional and strong Jewish household. The yeshiva staff, under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe Baruch shlita, accompanies the students throughout the entire journey – from the initial stage of becoming acquainted to the wedding and the establishment of a faithful home in Israel.
We cracked the code!
In light of the difficult reality of the youth in the community and their disconnection from their roots, as well as due to the great demand from the elders of the community, its leaders, and the parents of the children, we were exposed to the reality that the information and content we convey significantly reduces the assimilation among the youth in the face of the temptations of the occasional street, something that strengthens their connection to their heritage and the straight path they will follow in her
And as a result, the association took on an important and welcome initiative of several activities for the youth
The institute leads in-depth research in the ancient Semitic languages, with a special emphasis on the Ga’aze language – the sacred language of the Ethiopian Jews. We develop tools for deciphering and translating ancient texts in Gaza and related languages, and work to preserve the unique linguistic knowledge that today is mainly preserved among older spiritual leaders in the community.
We conduct in-depth research on community customs, religious ceremonies, and ancient traditions. We record in detail unique prayers, piyots, and traditional tunes, while preserving the rich knowledge accumulated over generations.
The institute maintains relations with academic and research institutions around the world to promote research on the heritage of Ethiopian Jews. We organize conferences, workshops, and joint publications to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the importance of this heritage in the Jewish and wider world context.Through these activities, the institute aims to preserve, research and make accessible the rich heritage of Ethiopian Jews, and to ensure its continuity and transmission to future generations, while emphasizing its importance within the Jewish and global cultural mosaic.
Alongside our current activities, our gaze is also firmly planted on the horizon. We believe that strategic thinking and long-term vision are the key to a significant and sustainable impact. Therefore, in parallel with our daily activities, we devote thought and resources to planning future initiatives and developing innovative programs that will strengthen our influence in the years to come. We believe that the combination of responding to the needs of the present and intelligent planning for the future is what will allow us to continue to lead a significant change in the community.
In order be able to fulfill our future goals and continue to carry out our activities, we would be happy for your help.
